Education Counselor / Senior Education Counselor – Study Abroad (Mandalay)
Location: Mandalay, Myanmar — with responsibility across Upper Myanmar
Department: Global Student Success Team
Employment Type: Full-Time
Salary: Negotiable + Performance-Based Commission & Incentives
Working Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM, with flexibility for events, travel and business requirements
Elevate Education is looking for highly motivated, commercially driven Education Counselors / Senior Education Counselors – Study Abroad for our Mandalay office.
This is a student recruitment and counseling role for people with a strong hunter mentality. Successful candidates should not simply wait for inquiries or company-generated leads. They must actively find prospective students, build relationships, create their own opportunities, follow up persistently, close enrollments and continuously develop referral pipelines.
The role combines professional study-abroad counseling with strong B2C sales, customer acquisition and relationship-building skills. Previous education-industry experience is an advantage but is not essential for candidates with a proven sales and customer-acquisition background.
Fully trained counselors will work toward ambitious individual recruitment goals, including a target of 30+ successful student enrollments per month at expected full-performance capacity.
Student Recruitment & Hunting
Actively identify and approach prospective students across Mandalay and Upper Myanmar.
Build a strong self-generated pipeline instead of depending entirely on company-provided leads.
Generate prospects through personal and professional networks, student/parent referrals, alumni connections, local communities, events, outreach and other appropriate channels.
Re-engage previous and inactive prospects to create new opportunities.
Continuously develop new prospecting methods and referral sources.
Work with company-generated leads from Marketing, Partnerships, events, walk-ins and other channels while actively generating additional business independently.
Study Abroad Counseling
Professionally counsel students and parents about suitable overseas study opportunities.
Understand each student's academic background, career goals, budget, English level and personal priorities before making recommendations.
Explain relevant universities, programs, admission requirements, tuition fees, scholarships, intakes and application processes accurately.
Help students and parents compare appropriate study options and make informed decisions.
Build trust and maintain professional long-term relationships with students and families.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of assigned universities, programs and admission requirements.
Sales, Conversion & Closing
Take ownership of prospects from initial contact through counseling, follow-up and enrollment commitment.
Work toward clear monthly individual recruitment and conversion targets.
Follow up proactively and persistently rather than waiting for prospects to contact the company.
Identify and address student/parent concerns and objections professionally.
Create appropriate next steps and move prospects through the recruitment pipeline.
Develop strong closing skills while maintaining responsible and ethical counseling standards.
Maintain a sufficient pipeline to support current and future monthly enrollment targets.
Pipeline & Follow-Up Management
Maintain accurate prospect records in company CRM/tracking systems.
Record counseling status, follow-up activities and next actions.
Prioritize hot, warm and longer-term prospects appropriately.
Ensure valuable prospects are not lost through poor follow-up.
Re-engage inactive leads and identify new conversion opportunities.
Provide accurate updates and forecasts on expected applications and enrollments.
Coordinate lead status and student handovers with Marketing, Partnerships and Admissions/Student Services teams.
Referral Generation
Maintain relationships with successfully recruited students and parents.
Proactively request appropriate referrals and introductions.
Develop networks among friends, classmates, families, alumni and communities.
Use satisfied students and families to build a sustainable referral pipeline.
Treat referral generation as an ongoing part of student recruitment rather than ending the relationship after enrollment.
Events & Upper Myanmar Recruitment
Participate actively in education fairs, seminars, school visits, university representative visits, information sessions, open houses and other recruitment activities.
Engage prospective students and parents directly during events rather than simply attending or representing the company.
Capture opportunities, counsel prospects and conduct systematic post-event follow-up.
Support recruitment activities across Upper Myanmar.
Travel domestically, including occasional multi-day recruitment trips, when required.
Be reasonably flexible for weekend/public-holiday events and recruitment activities according to business requirements.
Enrollment & Admissions Handover
Own the student relationship commercially through enrollment commitment.
Complete clear and accurate handovers to Admissions/Student Services for detailed application processing.
Continue supporting the student relationship when counseling, reassurance or commercial follow-up is required.
Work closely with Admissions/Student Services to reduce avoidable delays, cancellations and communication gaps.
Responsible Counseling & Quality
Recommend study options based on genuine student suitability, not only sales targets.
Provide accurate information and avoid misleading promises or inappropriate recommendations.
Balance strong commercial performance with student satisfaction, counseling quality and Elevate Education's reputation.
Take responsibility for avoidable misinformation, poor counseling practices or preventable student dissatisfaction.
Performance will be measured across:
Successful Enrollments & Target Achievement – 40%
Self-Generated Prospects / Hunting – 20%
Conversion, Pipeline & Follow-Up – 15%
Referral Generation – 10%
Counseling Quality & Accuracy – 10%
Events, Team & Market Contribution – 5%
The role is designed for people who enjoy ambitious targets, actively create opportunities and take personal ownership of results.
2+ years of relevant professional experience preferred in B2C sales, customer acquisition, business development, education counseling or another target-driven client-facing role.
Previous study-abroad or education-industry experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
Candidates from strong B2C sales backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Demonstrated hunter mentality with willingness and ability to actively find new prospective customers rather than relying only on incoming leads.
Proven ability or strong potential to work toward ambitious individual sales/recruitment targets.
Strong prospecting, relationship-building, persuasion, negotiation, objection-handling and closing skills.
Persistent and disciplined follow-up habits.
Able to build and maintain a healthy sales/recruitment pipeline.
Comfortable asking for referrals and developing new networks.
Strong communication skills with students, parents and other stakeholders.
Able to understand individual needs and recommend appropriate solutions rather than using one standard sales approach.
Responsible, ethical and accurate when providing study-abroad information.
Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate prospect and follow-up records.
Comfortable working with CRM systems, spreadsheets, Google Workspace and other business tools.
Able to learn detailed information about universities, programs, tuition fees, scholarships, admissions and study-abroad processes.
Target-driven, resilient, coachable and comfortable being held accountable for measurable results.
Able to work independently while collaborating with Marketing, Partnerships, Admissions/Student Services and other teams.
Willing to travel throughout Upper Myanmar for recruitment activities.
Flexible for occasional weekend/public-holiday events and multi-day business trips.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification preferred.
Strong Burmese communication and functional working English.
Senior-level consideration will depend on proven sales/recruitment performance, ability to generate business independently, conversion capability and ability to operate with limited supervision.
Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete a practical sales and counseling assessment and discuss previous performance/results.
